Pex Lives: A Doctor Who Podcast
James Murphy and Kevin Burns are both Certified Minor Internet Personalities with a shared love of Doctor Who. Explore the history of the show with them, as they watch classic serials and chat with each other each month about them. Each month, the pair will pick a classic serial to watch and then break down, exploring the themes, characters and production of the given story. There will also be jokes. Sometimes they may barely mention the show. New episodes every month.

In this exciting one-off hear James trying to wing his way through a conversation he should have done more preparation for with the lovely and charming Mr Conrad Slater (@conradslater) about all things Mr Men. Lots of interesting stuff from Conrad on this little discussed phenomenon. I've sat on this recording for many months because the audio is a bit poorer than I like, but I think it's worth a listen. Enjoy.

  • I prefer to think the the transition of background characters from humans to Mr. Men represents not an actual diegetic change, but a difference in the way the reader perceives those characters. What we see as a human being in one book might be a Mr. Somebody later on. When we see a Mr. Man who hasn't been the subject of a published book, we might imply some other viewer, watching a different set of books which might have profiled them without us.
